5/29 – THE BIG QUEER JEWISH PRIDE HAPPY HOUR
It’s almost time for our BIG Pride Happy Hour! I can’t believe that Pride is almost here. I have glitter to get and boas to buy.
Let’s kick off this pridetastic season with our 2nd annual BIG QUEER HAPPY HOUR with all the Jewish Gay Groups or as we call it the 5 families, or to people in the know the Kosher Nostra.
Bet Mishpacha – the LGBTQ congregation started in 1975 that meets at the Jewish Community Center in DC.
GLOE – The DC Jewish Community Center’s outstanding LGBTQ outreach program lead by the effervescent and talented Halley Cohen. GLOE is short for Gay and Lesbian Outreach and Engagement.
Nice Jewish Boys – A social and community based group of young gay Jewish men all looking for a nice doctor to take home to mother.
Gayyimm – AKA Nice Jewish Men, older and wiser Jewish Gay men looking to support their community.
And of course us, The Nice Jewish Girls.
The Happy Hour is at MOVA DC
2204 14th St NW Washington, DC 20009
(202) 629-3958 http://www.movaloungedc.com
Metro: U Street
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
This Happy Hour usually has a great turn out and the other groups are putting their full effort behind the event. We’ll have fabulous drink specials including $4 Miller Light, $7 Absolut, and $5 Vodka Punch or “Lime or Lust”. See the listserve for more information as it becomes available.
Bring your friends and your pride gear, this is going to be outrageous fun!
Please let us know if you need an ASL translator or other accommodation.
See you there!
4/27 – Tea & Jammers
Join NJGs starting at 2:00 to sample a variety of teas and pies at a NJG’s home in Southeast near 15th and Pennsylvania SE/Potomac Metro. A couple of lovely NJGs have volunteered to provide the teas and pies, but if you want to bring a sample of either to contribute please do!
From there we’ll head over to watch the nearby roller derby match at 4:00 at Stadium Armory as a group! You can learn more about roller derby at DCRollerGirls.com.
Children welcome!
As if you needed any more reason to come beyond fabulous Jewbians, tea and pie, and bad-ass feminist female athletes, check out why Meshell Ndegeocello loves DC Rollergirls (and why you should, too)!
Please see the NJG listserve for additional info. about this event, including how to RSVP. Tickets are already just $12, but if we get just a few more people we can get a reduced rate on tickets!
4/14 – Clothing Swap
This event will also be a fundraiser for the Diverse City Fund, so we’re asking for a $5-10 donation at the door.
Just bring your choicest apparel with you. If you can’t attend but would like to donate clothes, email us and we will arrange something. After the event, we will donate what is left to Casa Ruby (which is always looking for stylish women’s clothing!) and another worthy charity to be determined.
Hope to see you soon! For the exact location and RSVP information please see the list serve. And don’t forget to invite scads of friends!
4/2 – End of Passover Pizza and Beer
With Passover around the corner you can be sure our Nice Jewish Girls are planning something fun for the other end. Join us in celebrating our freedom from mandatory matzah at NJG’s annual Post-Pesach Pizza & Beer gaiety on Tuesday, April 2 at 7:15.
This year we’re going for the brick oven Neopolitan pizza at Red Rocks (http://www.redrocksdc.com). And if you don’t like pizza, follow the lead of one of our own, who said she’ll be there because “I love Jewbians more than I dislike pizza.”
Or come for the beer: Red Rocks offers hard ciders and great selection of microbrews/Belgians, wines and craft cocktails including pomegranate martinis. “One of the most interesting beer lists in town” is one of the typical comments on Yelp, so come get yer hops on.
All this in cozy rowhouse ambiance… treat yourself to a nice evening out with some fine women. By the end you’ll know why this night is different from all other nights…
For full details check the list serve, and please RSVP by 3/30 on our Yahoo poll if you can join us!
Note to the Gluten-Free: while there’s no GF pizza on the menu, they happily prepare pizzas using customers’ GF dough if you’d like to BYO.
Note to the Newbies: there’ll be a special meet & greet for folks who are new to the group or haven’t been to an NJG event yet, so come around 7 … be fearless!
3/31 – National Rainbow Seder
Save the date for GLOE’s Rainbow Seder! On March 31 come to this national event that is part-ritual, part-celebration, part-feast and part-conversation! As we read about our ancient struggles for freedom, we want to keep in mind the struggles (and victories!) happening for GLBT rights today. Stay tuned for details!
